I can hear my Soul Fairy! : )
A Bit of History:
Back in the early 60's my father opened a small music store in our home town called Quinn's Music. His forte was drumming but could play virutally any instrument. I found that so infatuating. Sadly, he died in 1977 although Quinn's Music is still open and doing well today. My dad had the opportunity to play with Ken McWilliams many times during those early years and they recorded a couple of songs together, Sax Man Country Style and Devil On DeathHighway (a song Ken wrote about a danergous curve on the North side of Big Rapids on old 131). My three older sisters each play guitar, harp, and/or keys and they all have beautiful singing voices. Being surrounded by music and live bands in my house growing up, I knew singing was in my future. I think I knew this coming out of the womb. I began crooning to live audiences in our living room at the ripe old age of 6 and then continued with my dream and singing on stage when I was 15 when I joined my first band. Over the years I have experienced living in Nashville and Las Vegas singing in live bands, recording at Scrugg's Studios in Nashville and recording in Las Vegas as well. I also had the wonderful opportunity to record with Steve Maycroft...I am one his biggest fans. He drove to Nashville to record "Love Only Knows" a tune Larry Wiater AND Steve wrote and Steve also did an incredible job engineering, doing back up instrumentation, the works. Thank you Steve...
I recently had the sheer pleasure of singing with Northbound out of Muskegon! Wow! If you get a chance to get out and hear these guys, you will have so much fun! It was magic even when sitting in the audience, watching the way they free spiritedly take their songs into the night with a constant invitation from their fans to sing along!. They let me sing a blues song with them, and from the first note, it was a rockin' blues energy I hadn't felt in a very long time! Go see Northbound when you get the chance...You'll love 'em!
Bringing this to a more profound level, I believe music and love are the roots of everything that moves me. I think we're all here for a reason... I love to believe that our purposes here are uniquely and equally important, and things are exactly as they should be. Our circumstances are just as they are "for a reason". I feel like everything is connected and it's all relative. We grow from our hurts and we can attract anything into our lives simply by believing and trusting in the Laws of Attraction. Words are strong... So writing, thinking, and saying anything you want to can be to your advantage or to your great disadvantage, depending...If certain events had or had not happened, then other certain events would have or maybe not have... happened. I love that thought because the mysteries of life can be so adventurous and exciting. Read or watch The Secret. You'll change your mind... I love to feel the suspense and adventure of the mysteries of life. I believe in unconditional love and I believe people come into and out of our lives for good reasons. Being musical, spiritual and adventurous is a recipe I believe brings love, freedom and the feeling that one can embrace life and all of its possibilities.
It became obvious to me (and to my ex'es) that my first love is definitely my son Jonny, but next in line comes my love for music. Songwriting became a second love to music for me and I believe it has healed and guided me through many hurdles in my life too. I was able to expel what I was dealing with into lyrical form. All different genres, including classic rock (big hair), progressive country, and some blues. When I fell in love with the blues, I was in a variety band playing classic rock and country with a splash of blues. I mean more like a "sprinkle" of blues. I would sway my voice and try to blues out some of our songs just to get a taste of it for the night. Bending notes and adding more soul in certain parts. So now, I have decided to mix all of my loves of music together and see about doing a variety band again. I love country, soul blues, rock and the combination of all of it.
I have been spending time songwriting, trying to play my accoustic (I need help!), traveling a bit, singing a lot with friends and relatives, and I'm excited about the new possibilities on my journey ahead. I have had lots of interaction with bands and musicians and I am finding myself feeling bittersweet seeing people I haven't seen in many years and also meeting so many others along the way in our music world. (A big THANKS to Don Bob for putting this site together... Really. It's an amazing way to network, reconnect with old friends, and make new ones! Thanks Don Bob...).
My plans now are to join a band by the name of Dun Deal. Very nice people and great musicians! I'm on the upswing again... :)
In the meantime, I will see ya'll on stage (and/or off...).
Carpe' Diem!
P.S. I believe in soul fairies, I drink wine from a box and I am 1,000 percent sure that blueberries are a food group.
